Hosted by Shams Al-Insaniya Organization, a meeting of the Iraq Civil Society Education Forum (ICSEF) was held under the title:
“The Impact of the Decline in the Euphrates River Water Levels and Climate Change on Education and the Learning Environment in Anbar: Challenges and Practical Solutions”
This meeting was conducted as part of the project:
“Expanding the Role of Iraqi Civil Society Organizations, and Strengthening Their Leadership and Governance in Education through Supporting the Continuity of the Civil Society Education Forum in Iraq.” Implemented by UNESCO and supported by the European Union.
The session took place on April 22, 2026, in Anbar Province, with the participation of representatives from government entities and civil society organizations.
The session discussed the أبرز (key) challenges facing the education sector, including water scarcity and its impact on the school environment and students’ health, as well as declining attendance rates. It also reviewed the current response efforts by relevant stakeholders.
Furthermore, the session addressed the role of civil society organizations in supporting the continuity of education, proposing low-cost practical solutions, and highlighting the needs of persons with disabilities, ensuring their access to services within schools.
The session concluded with a set of actionable recommendations aimed at enhancing a safe and sustainable learning environment in the face of climate change.
