Enhancing Gender Equality and Protecting Women and Girls
SHAO aims to promote gender equality and justice, advocate for the rights of women and girls, and protect them from all forms of violence, including gender-based violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. It encourages the local community to uphold the rights of women and girls through educational and awareness programs addressing their issues.
Achieving Food Security and Supporting Vulnerable Groups:
SHAO implements projects targeting food security for marginalized families, such as widows, divorcees, orphans, and those affected by conflicts. These initiatives aim to improve access to nutritious food and support sustainable agricultural projects that enhance self-sufficiency and economic stability.
Economic Empowerment and Vocational Training for Women and Girls
Focusing on enhancing the capacities of Iraqi women and girls, SHAO provides economic empowerment and vocational training programs. These programs facilitate their participation in the labor market, equip them with leadership and decision-making skills, and include practical skills training and entrepreneurship development. The goal is to enable women to achieve economic independence and assume impactful roles in society.
Capacity Building for Sustainable Development
SHAO seeks to equip women and youth with leadership and managerial skills to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) both locally and globally. These efforts include building community capacity to counter violent extremism and fostering social cohesion by promoting unity and inclusivity.
Raising Awareness of Legal, Health, and Social Issues
SHAO works to raise awareness of legal, health, psychological, and social issues, empowering women and girls to take on leadership roles within their families and communities. It also provides legal, psychological, and social support to affected groups, particularly women and children impacted by conflict, enhancing their resilience in facing challenges.
Enhancing Youth Participation in Democratic Processes and Peacebuilding
SHAO strives to educate youth on the importance of active participation in democratic processes through awareness campaigns promoting free and fair elections. It also engages youth in transforming harmful societal norms related to gender-based violence by equipping them with peacebuilding skills and fostering their role in creating cohesive communities.
Promoting Peace, Social Cohesion, and Community Resilience
SHAO aims to instill values of peace, social cohesion, and national reconciliation through dialogue sessions and educational workshops. These initiatives engage youth in combating sectarianism and strengthening national unity. Additionally, the organization provides legal, social, health, and educational support for displaced and returning populations, aiding their reintegration and stability.
Developing Community-Based Projects
SHAO bases its projects on needs assessments conducted through field surveys, designing initiatives that respond to the needs of vulnerable groups, including women and youth. These projects address issues such as livelihoods, education, and community safety, providing programs that cater to the needs of displaced persons, female-headed households, and marginalized youth.
Supporting Children and Children with Disabilities
Special attention is given to children, particularly those with disabilities, by designing and implementing projects that address their specific needs. This includes initiatives to ensure their inclusion, access to education, and provision of specialized services to improve their quality of life.
Vision
SHAO vision is a world where Iraqi women and girls can achieve economic, social, and health empowerment, with women playing a key and influential role in enhancing livelihoods and fostering social cohesion. We strive for a world free from violence against women and girls, where gender equality and fairness are realized, and where the needs for education and food security are met for all groups. We aspire to a civil society where all individuals, including marginalized groups, enjoy their human rights and live dignified lives characterized by social justice, sustainable development, citizenship, and democracy, while promoting resilience and empowering the target groups in all areas. By 2030, we hope this vision will be tangibly realized in our Iraqi society.
