The session included extensive discussions on several key themes, most notably:
🔹 The individual challenges and difficulties women and young women face when applying for jobs.
🔹 The institutional barriers limiting women’s opportunities for participation in society.
🔹 Civil and political partnership and the role of women in decision-making positions.
🔹 Showcasing inspiring success stories and practical experiences of women who managed to overcome obstacles.
At the conclusion of the session, participants agreed on practical recommendations to broaden women’s participation, in addition to working on drafting a proposed policy paper that reflects the key points raised during the dialogue.

Al-insaniya Organization for Women and Children, with the support of CARE Iraq, carried out the first activity of the initiative through a training workshop titled “Women Leaders for Change.”
The workshop targeted 10 women activists and civil society workers, focusing on enhancing their leadership skills through several key themes, including: learning about models of women leaders, the secrets of effective communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, the foundations of effective teamwork, in addition to inspiring success stories of women who were able to make a difference in their communities.
The workshop provided participants with an opportunity to exchange experiences, build capacities that enable them to face challenges, and strengthen their role as leaders capable of creating positive change within society.

Al-insaniya Organization for Women and Children, in partnership with the Women Empowerment Organization and supported by Search for Common Ground, held a dialogue session in Ramadi.
The session gathered representatives from government institutions, community police, media, civil society, and youth from the previous training. Discussions focused on envisioning peace within the community, common forms of violence, the role of youth in prevention, and the importance of partnerships with decision-makers.
✦ The session concluded with joint peace messages, reflecting collaboration toward a more peaceful and cohesive community.

The workshop brought together 20 male and female lawyers from various judicial institutions and civil society organizations. Over the course of three days, the sessions focused on analyzing the legal text on khul‘ (mutual divorce), building advocacy skills, and promoting mediation as an alternative mechanism for resolving family disputes. The workshop witnessed rich discussions and high participant engagement, concluding with practical recommendations aimed at enhancing justice and protecting women’s rights.

]]> “Youth Make Peace” Project https://shao-iraq.org/en/youth-make-peace-project/ Sun, 21 Sep 2025 17:45:36 +0000 https://shao-iraq.org/?p=3030 As part of the “Youth Make Peace” Project, Shams Humanitarian Organization, in partnership with the Women Empowerment Organization and with the support of Search for Common Ground, conducted a two-day training workshop on August 5–6, with the participation of 20 young male and female community activists.
The workshop aimed to raise youth awareness on the concepts of violence prevention and peacebuilding through interactive sessions rich in knowledge and experience. The first day covered the types, causes, and negative impacts of violence, in addition to social cohesion and community leadership and the role of youth in strengthening them.
The second day focused on advocacy and designing youth initiatives, along with community engagement tools, and included training on resource and volunteer management to empower youth to lead and implement impactful and sustainable initiatives within their communities.

Shams Al-Anbar Organization (SHAO) participated in a training workshop on “Advocacy, Policy, and Community Participation,” held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the GIZ office in Ramadi. The workshop was part of the project “Strengthening the Relationship between Decision-Makers and Citizens by Promoting Dialogue, Citizen Participation, and Basic Services in Anbar.”

The workshop focused on capacity building in advocacy, policy development, and enhancing the participation of marginalized groups in decision-making processes.

This participation comes within the framework of SHAO’s commitment to supporting sustainable community development, empowering women and youth, and strengthening the role of civil society organizations in achieving positive change.

شاركت منظمة شمس الأنبار في الورشة التدريبية حول “المناصرة والسياسات والمشاركة المجتمعية، التي أُقيمت يوم الثلاثاء 6 أيار 2025 في مكتب GIZ بمدينة الرمادي، ضمن مشروع “تعزيز العلاقة بين أصحاب القرار والمواطنين من خلال تعزيز الحوار ومشاركة المواطنين والخدمات الأساسية في الأنبار.

حيث ركّزت الورشة على بناء القدرات في مجال المناصرة، ووضع السياسات، وتعزيز مشاركة الفئات المهمشة في عمليات اتخاذ القرار.

The conference was held in Ramadi District, Anbar Governorate, on Monday, March 24, 2025, and featured a review of the project’s most notable achievements and its impact on enhancing women’s participation in various fields.
