Project for Enhancing Women’s Leadership in the Arab Community

Phase One: 01/11/2022 – 01/03/2023

Phase Two: 01/11/2023 – 01/03/2024

This project was developed to enhance the integration of women in Anbar Governorate and empower them through two main objectives that have been successfully achieved:

First: A foundational database was established through a comprehensive survey conducted to measure the extent of women’s exposure to social, psychological, and economic violence in Anbar Governorate. This survey helped identify the types and causes of violence, providing a better understanding of the specific needs of women experiencing violence. Data was collected by local researchers from the women’s community, which added credibility and acceptance within the community. After analyzing the results, in-depth interviews were conducted with 250 women to highlight the marginalization they face due to prevailing social norms.

One of the organization’s activists became a symbol of success after receiving comprehensive training in advocacy campaigns. She is now leading a large-scale awareness campaign advocating for women’s rights in Anbar Governorate. Her campaign, under the slogan #SheIsTheFoundation, aims to change social norms that hinder women’s progress and limit their effective participation in public life.

Second: Advocacy and Social Campaigns:

This project not only provided support and training but also focused heavily on advocacy and activating social campaigns. A widespread social media campaign was launched under the hashtag #SheIsTheFoundation, aiming to raise awareness of the issue of violence against women and emphasize the important role of women in community building. The campaign included inspiring success stories of women who overcame violence and discrimination to become active contributors to their communities. Additionally, the campaign involved organizing events, meetings, and surveys aimed at stimulating discussions on women’s issues and gender equality. It also included collaboration with local and international organizations to promote women’s rights and ensure social justice. Women were encouraged to report instances of violence through hotlines and communication channels with local organizations for legal, psychological, and social support. Through this project, we successfully engaged the entire community, including men, in promoting a culture of equality and reducing violence. Thanks to continued efforts, we saw a significant increase in the number of women reporting violence, alongside greater community engagement with awareness campaigns, reflecting a positive shift in community attitudes towards women’s rights.
